Eucalyptus
This essential oil is from the leaf of a tree that is native to Portugal, Australia and China. It is commonly used as an ingredient in cold care products such as inhalants and cough syrups, as well as muscle liniments and salves. Eucalyptus is a yin energy oil. In aromatherapy it is used to purify, invigorate and enhance concentration.

Geranium, Rose
This geranium is raised specifically because of the rose like odor of its leaves. Like other geraniums it's a soothing tonic for annuity and stress related conditions; astringent skin properties. Rose geranium seems to have a hormonal balancing effect and suitable for menopausal difficulties.

Grapefruit, Pink
Here's a warm, light aromatic that's especially helpful for the urinary system, particularly for those on a weight-management program. It also benefits the nervous system during excessive stress.

Pink Grapefruit is recommended by some authorities for treating eating disorders, both anorexia and overeating, when they stem from lack of self esteem. It seems to create a feeling of internal buoyancy. It's also helpful in treating oily skin and hair, and is often recommended as part of anti cellulite blends because of its toning and astringent effects.

Lavendula Vera
This classic scent for perfume, skin care and hair care products is a native of France, Bulgaria and Russia. Its sweet floral fragrance is considered a yang energy. In aromatherapy, Lavender is used to calm, soothe and normalize. Lavender oil is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and, possibly, anti-viral. Lavender functions as an adaptogen, aiding in restoring the body to balance.

Lemon
The lemon tree which produces this essential oil is native to the United States. This yang energy oil is cold pressed from the rind of the lemon and it can take three dozen lemons to produce one half ounce of lemon essential oil. In aromatherapy lemon essential oil is used to cheer, uplift and refresh. Always dilute lemon essential oil before applying it to the skin and avoid exposure to the sun.

Lemongrass
Fresh, grassy-citrus, earthy scent. May relieve muscular pain and inflammation, known to improve circulation and digestion. Analgestic, anti-depressant, antimicrobal, anti-oxidant, antipyretic, antiseptic, astringent, bactericidal, carminative, deodorant, febrifuge, fungicidal, galactagogue, insecticide, nervine, sedative (nervous), tonic.

Peppermint

Penetrating, cool grassy mint odor. Nice in blends. Relieves nausea, muscle and joint pain, cold symptoms. Vitalizing, uplifting, cooling, refreshing. Peppermint is one of the 'basic necessities' for a first aid kit. It is one of the oils often recommended for easing migraines (especially those stemming from digestive problems); it helps clear congestion in the sinuses; it can ease indigestion (one drop on a sugar cube, or in a spoonful of honey.)

Mentally, it clears the brain, helps concentration, is a restorative in cases of mental fatigue, and a mental stimulant. Obviously not an oil to use in the evening when you are seeking sleep, but great in the car to help keep the driver alert. Peppermint is the ideal remedy for all digestive disorders, including nausea and vomiting. It is a great remedy for car or air sickness. In a massage, it helps stimulate the lymph system. It is also an analgesic and aids with treating sore muscles and joint pain. In skincare, a very weak dilution (less than 1%) is helpful for easing itching or irritation.

Peppermint cools by constricting the capillaries and needs to be used in extremely low dilutions. It is also an irritant. One or two drops in a bath is sufficient, use a 1% dilution for massage or other skin applications. Also, recent research indicates that the use of Peppermint Essential Oil may aggravate GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease-type of heart burn).

Rosemary
Rosemary, a native of Spain, Tunisia and Morocco, is a heavy, woodsy, incense-type fragrance. A yang energy oil, it is used as an anti-depressant and for its warmth. You should avoid this essential oil if you are pregnant, suffer from high blood pressure or epilepsy.

Wonderfully fresh and stimulating, Rosemary is known for its ability to wake up the body and spirit. In a massage oil it can stimulate circulation, and is often used in blends for cellulite and edema. In cosmetics and soaps, it is believed to combat acne, dandruff, and excessively oily skin A few drops added to shampoo makes dark hair glow, and may stimulate hair growth.

Sandalwood
This rich and sweet scented oil is known as an aid to meditation, spiritual growth , and a aphrodisiac. It acts as a tonic to the immune system, is often used in treating urinary tract problems. It balances both dry and oily skin, is useful in treating acne, and useful in soothing barber's rash. Emotionally, it relaxes stress, soothes irritation, and lifts depression. It is a wonderfully balancing oil.

Tangerine
Tangerine is wonderfully sweet, a true citrus smile bringer. It is softer, sweeter, lacking the complexity of Mandarin Orange Oil, but a perfect child's oil with it's sweetness. Emotionally, it is cheering and strengthening. Tangerine is a wonderful oil to diffuse in a toddler's room, or to add to his bath. As with all the citrus oils, beware of photosensitivity.

Tea Tree
This warm, spicy oil is from Australia. it is often used in antiseptics, skin care products and room sprays. It is also a yang energy oil and is used in aromatherapy as a cleansing, purifying and uplifting agent. Dilute before applying to the skin.

Tea Tree has won a reputation as a 'cure all' because of its powerful anti-fungal, anti-viral and antibacterial properties. It is the first suggestion for athlete's foot, nail viruses and other fungal infections.

Often used in anti-acne remedies, as well as in diffuser to combat the flu and other viral infections. It is often recommended as the remedy for a vaginal candida infection. Please note that recent laboratory tests indicate that Tea Tree Essential Oil is more effective as an anti-bacterial agent in weak dilutions (ie, less than 2%) than it is neat.
